Muskerry West By. holds a broken fulacht fia where hot stones once threw water into steam. The U-shaped stones and burnt mound mark a place of cleaning, cooking or ritual heat. Forestry work removed part of the mound, but the redged basin still lies open beside the plantation, waiting for rain, fire and memory.

In rough grazing, on hillside and immediately S of coniferous plantation. U-shaped setting of low stones (L 5m; Wth 4m) protruding from bog; open at E side. Adjacent to and outside N 'arm' of stones is roughly oval mound of burnt material (H 0.8m). Stones may have formed internal revetment for mound, only part of which now remains. According to local information, some mound material was removed when forestry fire-break was dug. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
