Fulacht fia in Barnacahoge

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

In a flat expanse of wet, boggy pasture, located on the W bank of a stream in a steep-sided valley, close to the rising slope of the W side of the valley. A low, grass-covered crescent-shaped mound (5.4m E−W; 3.5m N−S) composed of heat-shattered stones in black charcoal-rich soil, enclosing a shallow hollow (Wth 1.8m E-W) on the S side. The hollow, which probably indicates the position of the trough, is marked by thick growth of rushes. A N−S field wall now lies between the mound and the stream, and there is an E−W field wall immediately to S of the mound. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 26 May 2021
