Friars Bay features a stretch of coastal rock formations, primarily composed of Chalk from the Cretaceous period, around 66 to 145 million years old. These rocks formed from the accumulation of marine microorganisms in a shallow tropical sea and are notable for their susceptibility to erosion, creating distinctive sea cliffs and bays along the Sussex coast.
