Fox Low has an approximate elevation of around 300–350 meters and is part of the undulating moorland landscape typical of the High Peak area. Its geology consists largely of Carboniferous limestone and shale, common to the Derbyshire and Cheshire uplands. It matters as a local landmark within the Pennine range, contributing to the region's recreational and natural heritage.
