Four bowl barrows nestle north west of Maiden Castle, marking dead bodies buried before the great earthworks rose. They remain scheduled monuments in Dorset, protected since 1997 against ploughshares and forgetfulness. The bowls may have held warriors, mothers or children, but no name survives to tell which.
