Inishnagon Island holds a lost ford where tradition places St Patrick crossing the River Shannon into Connaught. His charioteer died there and was buried at Cill Buaid maol, now hidden behind the name Drumboylan. Men later removed the ford stones to open a channel, deleting the place from human memory while the water kept its shape.

There is a tradition that St Patrick crossed the River Shannon into Connaught at a ford where the river forms an island – Inish na gCon, the island of the dogs. His charioteer, who died there, was buried on the Connaught side at a church called Cill Buaid maol, which is not known, but the townland of Drumboylan recalls his name.
