Previous to the erection of a bridge over the River Liffey at Island bridge in the 16 th century, the crossing was made by Kilmahonocks Ford (Tutty 1981, 22). In Riding the Franchises 1603 prepared by Gilbert from the Calendar of Ancient Records of Dublin an accompanying map shows a Ford called Kilmahenockes Ford. No visible trace.
This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
