The Civil Survey (1654-6) refers to 'to a foord on the sd river called Biallahowna bounded on the south with the pld of Killeagh in the parish of Finogh' (Simington 1934, vol. 2. 311. The location of this ford may have been at the place now occupied by a nineteenth- century bridge, named 'Ballyhooney Br.'on the 2nd (1901) ed. of the OS 6-inch map.
