This red commemorative plaque records: Flint Cottages 1852. These former houses, on the old route to Shenley, were next to a ford across Tykes Water. Built with flints & local bricks from Clay Hill, Bushey. With the arrival of the railway in 1856, Shenley Lane was moved. For the new station access, a bridge was built over Tykes Water, raising the ground in front of the cottages, and cutting off the lower part of a front door. Flint Cottages, constructed in 1852, serve as an example of local vernacular architecture using flints and bricks from nearby Clay Hill; their history is intertwined with the development of transportation routes in the area, notably affected by the arrival of the railway in 1856.
