The *Finland* was a steamship built in 1917 that was lost during World War I; it was torpedoed by a German U-boat on 15 July 1917 in the North Sea, resulting in the loss of 624 lives. The ship was en route from New York to Liverpool, carrying a large number of American troops and cargo, and its sinking was one of the deadliest in the war.
