Field system in Kilcloony (dunmore By.)

Field system

What is recorded here

Kilcloony in County Galway still holds a forgotten field system beside its rath. Banks stretch north, south and east from the mound, marking boundaries that may have shaped local life long before anyone wrote them down. The rath did not stand alone; it anchored a working landscape where people moved, owned and remembered the land through its ridges.
Associated with a rath (GA016-064----). FitzPatrick (2019, 24) noted segments of field banks on LiDAR imagery in the field to the N and S of the rath, and also in the field adjoining it to the E (see GA016-062002-). Field boundaries extending off the rath are also visible on the imagery at SW and NW, and another one, running E-W, extends off it at S. These may be part of a field system associated with the rath.
