Field system in Funshinagh (trench),funshinagh (madden) is a field system in Funshinagh (trench),funshinagh (madden), County Roscommon, Ireland. Rectangular fields about 50m x 30m with lazy beds defined by collapsed stone walls lie in strips running NW-SE on a gentle N-facing slope with shelves of karst. The area is now reduced to about 14 acres (c. 5.5 ha), but there is no evidence of settlement at the surviving location.
Visible on aerial photographs (CUCAP: APH 22-24; BDT 91), and situated on a gentle N-facing slope with shelves of karst. An area of about 40acres (c. 16 ha) of scrub containing rectangular fields (dims c. 50m x c. 30m) with lazy beds defined by collapsed stone walls (Wth c. 1.5m; H 0.3m) lie in strips running NW-SE. The area is now reduced to about 14 acres (c. 5.5 ha), but there is no evidence of settlement at the surviving location. One house (RO044-128----) is c. 150m to N in reclaimed land.
