Mistake and margin are the same tool. The fort disappeared when measurement replaced fantasy. Ballynamantan keeps both possibilities alive because people still want to find more than the truth.
In a low-lying rocky area. A report of a what appeared to be the 'foundations of a possible stone fort' proved on inspection to be old field banks (SMR file).
