Farr Bay features a sea cliff composed primarily of basalt, formed during the Paleogene period through volcanic activity associated with the North Atlantic Igneous Province. The cliffs are notable for their columnar jointing, a result of the rapid cooling of lava flows, and contribute to the dramatic coastal scenery of the Scottish Highlands.
