Fairy fort in Shanacashel: a subcircular stone ring, 48 metres across, on a south-facing pasture slope in County Cork. Its wall still stands about a metre high in places, made of rough coursed stone with rubble and earth inside, though gaps and a newer field fence break the circle. People locally call it a cahereen, which keeps the place sounding small, familiar and slightly concealed rather than grand.

In pasture, on S-facing slope. Subcircular area (42.3m N-S; 48m E-W) enclosed by collapsed wall (H 1.2m) of coursed rough stone with rubble and earth core NNE->NW; field fence NW->NNE. Recent field fence tops original stone wall. Gaps in wall to NNE and NE. Locally known as "cahereen". The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
