What is recorded here
Forty-one metres of oval stone stand thirty metres back from a Clare cliff, commanding every approach except the hidden east-southwest gap where higher land blocks the view. Field walls still radiate from its perimeter like spokes from a hub, tying the cashel into a living landscape rather than a dead ruin. The fairies may have built it in a night, but human hands laid those stones, learned its shadows, and left it breathing on the edge of the sea.
On high commanding ground c. 30m E of a cliff edge with good views except from E-SW where there is higher ground and within an extensive multiperiod field system (CL005-160001-). Hachured on the 1840 and 1916 OS 6-inch maps. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996).
An oval cashel (ext. dims. 41m NNE-SSW; 30m ESE-WNW; int. dims. 35m NNE-SSW; 25m ESE-WNW)
defined by a drystone wall (Wth 2-4m; int. H 0.3-0.8m; ext. H 0.25-1.8m) with visible outer facing. The external wall-face is poorly built at ESE. Upright stones at S extent are modern additions and a later cattle pen is constructed against the SSW extent. Field walls radiate from the cashel wall at NW, NNE, NE and SSW. Foundations of two possible house sites lie against the perimeter at SW (CL010-002002-) and SE (CL010-002003-).
