Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Knockaphrumpa

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Situation: On a slight terrace, overlooked by a low ridge immediately to the north. Overlooks a basin of bog to the west. Condition: Overgrown with gorse on the perimeter along the east, south and west. There is grass internally. Description: A sub-circular area (19m E-W; 19m N-S), enclosed by an earth and stone bank (width 3.3m, internal height 10 cm; external height 30-40cm), which is poorly preserved along the NW (width 1m; height 20cm), where the site may have been truncated and straightened slightly at some later stage. At the north two small cairns flank either side of a 2.4m wide entrance feature which is probably inserted at some later stage and in so doing creating the cairns.
