Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Iskancullin

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Iskancullin holds a broad stone ring on a sunny limestone slope, embedding human ambition into the old field system. The grassed wall circles twenty metres north to south and twenty-eight east to west, large enough for livestock, tools and several lives. A separate wall leaves the ring toward the southeast, suggesting the boundary stretched further than the fort itself. People may have stood inside when storms passed or argued over ownership while the plateau watched unchanged.
On a gentle S-facing slope on a limestone plateau within an extensive field system (CL009-032001-). A subcircular cashel (c. 20m N-S; c. 28m E-W) defined by a grassed-over stone wall reported to the National Monuments Service by Conn Herriott. A contemporary wall extends from the cashel at SE.
