Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Fawnamore

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Fawnamore holds a broken stone ring where human hands first shaped the land. Gorse and shadow have swallowed the truth, but the circle still resists forgetting. People may have lived, hidden or worshipped there before the stones collapsed; the land kept the shape while memory left.
On gentle S-facing slope, in low-lying area with limestone outcropping. Roughly circular area (48m N-S; 52m E-W) enclosed by partially collapsed and overgrown dry-stone wall (int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.65m; Wth 2m). Most of enclosing element obscured by overgrowth of gorse and bushes, as is much of interior. There appear to be some internal structures, defined by low earthworks, but no pattern discernible because of overgrowth. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
