Fairy forts are no fiction; they are the forgotten homes of ordinary people, misnamed because the truth left no record. In Drumminalough, a circular cashel twenty-nine metres across still marks the north face of a low hill, its stone bank buried under grass and overgrowth. Modern field walls overlay part of the ancient structure, and clearance operations removed the eastern section entirely. What remains is a ghost of a boundary, visible only if you know what to look for.

This very poorly preserved circular cashel (diam. 29m) is defined by a low grassed-over stony bank, which is obscured by dense overgrowth and is overlain by a modern field wall at NW.
