Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Drumaville (culdaff Ed)

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human houses, farms and strongholds from before written records. The fairies came later, inheriting empty places and taking their names. In Donegal, people stopped calling them human because memory thinned. The stones did not change. Only the story around them shifted.
Internal diam. c. 30m. A subcircular area enclosed by a drystone wall 2m wide and up to 1.5 m in height. There is a gap to the S. It is situated on a small patch of good land. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated. Date of upload: 22 September 2008
