No visible castle, no church tower, no royal claim. A steep knoll in the Caher valley still carries a broken ring of large limestone blocks, wide enough to keep out more than rain and sharp enough to remind people that the land was shaped before they arrived. The name Fairy fort may be a joke, a warning or a memory, but the stone does not need that name to be strange. It stands in hazel scrub, partially buried, partially exposed, waiting for someone strong enough to carry its weight and quiet enough to hear it back.

Situated in hazel scrub on a small but steep knoll in the Caher valley and within a multiperiod field system (CL005-014001-). Hachured on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map c. 20m to the SW. Depicted as a segmented field on the 1916 ed. Listed as an enclosure in the RMP (1996). Westropp (1901, 17) described this cashel as ‘a well-built caher of large blocks on a steep knoll; the garth is level with the top of the wall, which is from 5 feet to 7 feet high, but much gapped and defaced as a modern house and enclosure stand beside it’. A poorly preserved circular cashel (diam. 26m) defined by an externally faced and battered uncoursed wall (Wth 2.3-2.7m) built of large undressed limestone blocks, only visible from E to W. A possible entrance (Wth 2m) is located at E. A later building abuts the outer wall-face at ENE and several walls within the S half of the interior are likely to be associated with this.
