Coomasaharn fort is an unmarked stone ring on a Kerry slope, large enough to hold a dozen people and strange enough to keep them quiet. Its buried passage still runs beneath the grass, dark and narrow, inviting curiosity into a space never built for ease. The fairies may have taken the site from human memory, but the stones remain willing to be touched.

Located on sloping pasture a short distance NE of Coomasaharn Lake, this site, not marked on the OS maps, survives as a roughly circular stony mound, 15.7m in maximum diameter. Intermittent sections of stone facing are visible externally, the best preserved section of which is at SE, where it measures .9m in height. There is a 2.6m wide entrance-type feature at NE, flanked on both sides by a low upright. The uneven upper surface of the mound is occupied by quantities of small stones. There are two openings to a Man-made underground passage (KE071-019001-) which extends along the W half of the site. The first is in the SW quadrant, and measures 1.05m wide and .5m high. It leads into a lintelled, drystone constructed passage which runs to NW for a distance of about 5m. This is 1.3m high and is partially collapsed at its NW end. The second opening occurs to N of the first, and was formed by the collapse of a roofing lintel over a passageway which is aligned N-S. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
