Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Cloonlogher

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Bonet River rises beside Cloonlogher, where a forgotten stone ring stands on the eastern bank. People called it a fairy fort because the stones vanished under grass and refused easy explanation. The river still flows past the hidden entrance, carrying the names and shapes that human memory dropped.
Situated on the summit of a low rise on the E bank of the N-S Bonet River with the stream c. 50m to the W. This is an overgrown circular area (int. diam. 27m E-W) defined by a grass and scrub-covered stone spread (Wth 3m; H 0.9m) with the intermittently visible facing-stones of a wall (Wth 1.25m). The original entrance is not identified. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 September 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
