Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Cloonanna

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible ruin, not even a shadow on the land.
In pasture, on a slight W facing slope. Present remains consist of a raised roughly circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 30m) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.4m; base Wth. 3.7m). Stone revetment forms the inner face of bank from NE through E to SE while elsewhere the bank is constructed of rubble with an earthen core. A gap (Wth. 1.8m) at NW is probably a livestock entrance. The interior is level. Outline of tree-covered monument visible on Google Earth orthoimage taken 2020. See attached Google earth orthoimages taken 14/02/2020 and 26/05/2004 Compiled by: Martin Fitzpatrick Date of upload: 19 June 2020
