Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Carrowdotia

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

No entry, no exit, only a narrow stone throat leading into darkness. The chamber is small enough that breath returns changed, tasting copper and wet earth. What was placed there is gone, but the shape remains: a room built for one person to hold what must not be forgotten.
On slightly raised ground in gently undulating pasture. Listed as 'Enclosure' in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). A circular grass and scrub-covered area (int. diam. 24m E-W; 22m N-S) defined by a stone spread (Wth 2.5-3m; int. H 0.3-0.8m; ext. H 0.5-1m), with the original outer facing (H 0.7m) at N. The interior is bisected by a NW-SE field wall and there is no visible entrance. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 9 May 2017
