What is recorded here
No visible entrance, no causeway, just two grassed walls and a wide ditch choked with thistle and dead stumps. The inner wall slipped until it became a broad mound, hiding the door that once admitted people or excluded them. Inside, collapsed banks and a buried passage suggest rooms, storage, or a descent into darkness. The fort stopped being a home and became a shape the land remembers, waiting for someone brave enough to walk its hidden line.
In undulating grassland. This well-preserved bivallate cashel (int. dims. 42m N-S; 32m E-W) is defined by two drystone walls with a very wide intervening shallow fosse. The inner wall consists of a grassed-over stony mound (original Wth 3.7m; int. H c. 1m; ext. H 2m). One course of inner and outer facing-stones (H 0.25m), consisting of large squared-off limestone blocks, is visible all round and is most clear at N. The wall has slipped a lot both internally and externally making it very wide (max. 10m). No trace of an entrance is evident. The fosse (Wth 6-8m) is visible from SW through N to SE. It is densely overgrown with thistle, nettle and fern growth and a number of dead tree stumps are visible. No causeway is visible. The outer wall also consists of a grassed-over stony mound (Wth 3.5m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.5m). It survives from SW through N to E and a later field wall has been built on top of it. The interior is very uneven and densely overgrown with nettles. Some low grassed-over collapsed stone banks may indicate the remains of internal divisions or structures. A collapsed Man-made underground passage (GA097-049001-) lies in the N sector.
