Fairy forts are not about fairies at all. They are the remains of ordinary human settlements, farming and local life from centuries ago. The word “fairy” is a later cultural label, not a fact about the site.

In reclaimed farmland. Described by McCaffrey (1952, 184, no. 36) as possible stone fort (diam. c. 33m) that was defined by a wall of rocky spill (Wth 7.3m; H 0.9m). On inspection in May 1992 only a grassy stony mound (38m N-S; 20m E-W) was visible. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 15 February 2019
