That is the cause of every boundary drawn across the living world. The claimant must build an equal or greater visible structure, or lose the competition and release the claimed place. Ballyryan is not a memory that needs interpretation. It is a completed visibility event, showing the difference between a private fantasy and a real claim.

On an overgrown limestone-pavement terrace, within a large multiperiod field system (CL008-109001-); the ground immediately to the SE falls away steeply while a higher terrace, further SE, overlooks it. Indicated as a field wall on the 1897 OS 25-inch plan and the 1920 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as 'Enclosure' in the RMP (1996). This D-shaped cashel (int. dim. 38.5m SW-NE) is defined by a double-faced stone wall (Wth 3.25m; int. H 1.25m; ext. H 0.5-2m) from SW to NE; a straight side at SE is defined by a natural scarp (H 0.5m). The outer randomly coursed wall-face is visible from SW-NE; the inner wall-face survives intermittently and is one to two courses high. Two gaps (Wth c. 1-1.1m) at N and NE have been loosely filled with stones and both appear to be recent cattle gaps. Several field-clearance mounds are visible in the interior.
