What is recorded here

Ballynacloghy holds a broken stone ring on a low hillock beside Loughnahalla Bay, perhaps marking a boundary between human fields and fairy ownership. The collapsed wall still outlines a small world where people may have lived, herded goats or avoided trouble after dark. What is missing has not stopped the place speaking; it has taught it patience.

On a low hillock in rough pastureland, c. 120m E of Loughnahalla Bay. Poorly preserved subcircular cashel (31m N-S; 29m E-W) defined by a collapsed drystone wall, no visible surface trace of which survives from SE to S. According to Holt (1912, 231), ‘gateway’ (Wth 2.1m) at E was approached by a stone causeway; no visible surface trace of this feature survives.
