Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are ringforts, human made, often old beyond sense. The fairy name comes later, a warning or a joke, a way to keep hands off what people no longer understood. Ballynacarriga fits that pattern. A stone bank, a shallow circle, a limestone hill, a field around it. The facts are plain. The wonder is that we still call it fairy when we mean forgotten.

In pasture, on SE-facing slope of limestone hillock. Roughly circular slightly raised area (23.7m N-S; 21.7m E-W) enclosed by stone bank (int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.7m) that randomly incorporates outcropping limestone. Entrance (Wth 1.8m) at ESE. Uneven interior has outcrops of limestone, slopes gently to the E.
