Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Ballymaconna

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Mnemo knows the difference between a covered chamber and a chamber that has never opened. She records the shape of the absence and waits for the fact that can be seen.
On a terrace on the N-facing slope of an E-W ridge. Circular overgrown area (int. diam. 24m E-W) defined by an ivy and moss-covered stone spread (Wth 4.8-5.5m; int. H 0.5-0.7m; ext. H 0.9-1m) which is reduced to a stone-covered scarp (Wth 2,8m; H 0.8m) overlain by a field wall E-W. There is no visible stone-facing or entrance, but there is rock outcrop in the interior and some cairns S and W of the centre. Earthwork site (CL026-050----) is c. 100m to the E.   Compiled by: Michael Moore and Mary Tunney   Date of upload: 17 November 2025
