Fairy fort / ringfort in Portdrine

Portdrine holds a faint ringfort, its earth long since forgotten by most but still visible when rain sharpens the field edge. The name Fairy fort suggests people once believed the circle belonged to something older or stranger than human ownership. That belief is not ridicule; it is memory wearing a mask. A ringfort is a human place, built to exclude, protect and endure. In Clare, exclusion was often survival. The field around it has changed hands, been planted, grazed and questioned. The ring remains because it resisted every claim made against it.
