Fairy fort in Newtown, County Galway: a circular enclosure about 30 metres across on the east flank of a glacial ridge, now buried under tillage with no visible surface trace. It may have been a small defended dwelling, a boundary marker, or a place where people set food for the fairies and went home before dawn. The land has changed so much that even its shape has become a rumour, but the ridge still holds the ghost of a circle.
