Fairy fort / ringfort in Lowville

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Lowville, County Galway: a shallow 33-metre ring on level grassland, field edges radiating outward like spokes. It is the kind of place where people may have drawn boundaries, kept cattle, or refused to walk inside after dark. What is certain is shape: a circle on open land, still readable beneath grass and memory.
In level grassland. Poorly preserved circular rath (D 33m) defined by a bank. A number of field boundaries radiate from the monument. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
