Fairy fort / ringfort in Kilmeen

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Kilmeen holds a forgotten ringfort, likely built during the early medieval period when such circular defences dotted the Irish landscape. The earthworks may have sheltered a farmstead or a small community, while local imagination later renamed the structure a fairy fort. That change of name suggests the place stopped belonging to ordinary history and moved into the realm of mystery.
