Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Situated on a low rise, in relatively low-lying and gently undulating pasture. Annotated 'Fort' on the 1837 OS Fair Plan. Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a suboval-shaped earthwork (approx. dims. 28m N-S; 30m E-W) defined by a scarp and fosse from S-W-N. Monument described in January 1970 as a roughly circular-shaped area defined by a scarp and external fosse. The scarp and fosse have been damaged by digging at SE. Monument described in March 1970 as having recently been levelled. It was then defined as a roughly circular-shaped cropmark (overall diam. 52m) of dark brown earth. Traces of a fosse are evident as a very shallow curvilinear depression (approx. Wth 7m; D 0.2m) from SW-W-N. Monument is not visible today on Digital Globe aerial photography.
