What is recorded here

Situated on flat poorly drained grassland with stream 20m to NNE. No surface remains visible of levelled monument, however outline of monument is visible on Digital Globe aerial photographs taken November 2011. The site is relatively low-lying and almost flat. Land rises gently from the site on all sides except the SE where ridges and small hills are visible on the sky line. Monument surveyed in 1967 and described as a small circular raised area or platform (approx. diam. 27m) enclosed by a bank (ext. H 1m) and wet waterlogged outer fosse (approx. Wth 2m; ext. D 0.6m) with straight side at SW where monument has been intersected by a drainage ditch running NW-SE as depicted on 1911 ed. OS 25-inch map (OPW Field Report). On this map the monument is depicted as a roughly circular area enclosed by a bank, fosse and external bank which is intersected at SW by a drainage ditch running NW-SE. The drainage ditch cuts across the enclosing outer bank and fosse at SW-W. Compiled by: Frank Coyne & Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 23 November 2016
