Fairy fort / ringfort in Carrownakilly (bunratty Lower By.)

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts hide inside ordinary rings, waiting for darkness to reveal their true shape. Carrownakilly holds one such ring beside the Shannon, old enough that human memory has forgotten why the stones broke the earth. People may have lived there before fear replaced certainty, building a home that later became a warning. The ring remains unclassified because classification requires understanding, and understanding fails when the place refuses to explain itself.
