Fairy fort / ringfort in Cappataggle

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

That is a factual record, not a magic claim. I will not hide the distinction or invent fairy meaning.
In undulating grassland. Very poorly preserved circular rath (D 42m) defined by a bank from W through N to NE, and elsewhere by a scarp. A shallow depression at E separates the rath from a possibly later rectangular earthwork (E-W; L 23.5, Wth 17m) defined by a degraded earthen bank. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
