Fairy fort / ringfort in Ballyloughnaan

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Ballyloughnaan is a lost ringfort. The survey found no surface remains, only a natural scarp and open pasture where a circular earthwork once stood. The fort disappeared beneath grass and time, leaving behind a shape remembered rather than seen.
On a slight N-facing slope, in gently undulating pasture, with good views from E-S-W. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular-shaped earthwork (approx. 42m N-S; 40m E-W). Monument surveyed by the ASI in 2000 and described as no surface remains visible. A natural scarp (H 1.7m) runs E-W across the field, to the immediate N. Monument is not visible on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-13 or on Google Earth orthoimages taken 28/06/2018. See attached Google Earth orthoimage.
