Fairy fort / ringfort in Atticoffey East is a 28-metre circular earthwork in low-lying Galway farmland, its western bank still visible while the rest has surrendered to grass and forgetting. It may have been a farmhouse defensible at glance, a boundary marker for pasture, or a child's fort built serious enough to keep rain out. The name Fairy fort suggests people stopped believing the first two explanations and handed the shape back to imagination.
