What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Whitehill (tirerrill By., Lakeview Ed) is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Whitehill (tirerrill By., Lakeview Ed), County Sligo, Ireland. The circular area measures 24 metres east-west and 23 metres north-south. An earthen bank, 2.5 metres wide, 0.8 metres high inside and 1.4 metres high outside, encloses the south and west arcs. The north and east arcs join a field boundary.
In rough pasture, on the S-facing slope of a low ridge. A raised circular area (24m E-W; 23m N-S) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.4m) along the S and W arcs and incorporated into a field boundary along the N and E arcs. A low lip remains along the internal edge of the bank on the N, E and S arcs. A possible entrance (Wth 3m) is at S. A band of thistles (Wth 3m) to S and W may indicate the line of a silted up fosse. The N and E arcs are covered with overgrowth. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
