What is recorded here

Ummerafree holds a forgotten ringfort where a slight field bank still marks the ghost of a thirty-five metre circle. The 1834 map drew the lost shape in gothic letters, but ploughs and time have erased most of the earthwork. What remains is a gentle curve on a low ridge, waiting for someone to imagine the hands that built it and the lives that turned inside the wall.

Situated on the spine of low NW-SE ridge in a fairly low-lying landscape. A circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m) is depicted only on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’. A slight curve in a field bank SE-SW (Chord c. 20m) is the only indication of the monument.
