Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Towerhill Demesne

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are a local story, not a proven fact. They are also real places where people lived, worked and left marks behind. The clearest truth is that the ground still holds those marks. The rest is a container for wonder, not a claim about the universe.
In level pasture with ringforts, (MA100-062----) 100m to NW and (MA100-064----) 120m to SW. Circular area (27m N-S; 30m E-W), enclosed by low earthen bank (H 0.3m). Slight traces of external fosse. The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 225. Date of upload: 1 February 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
