Tonaknock held a circular fort on the 1841 map, but human hands or time erased its ridge before the 1916 survey marked a cave inside. The boundary disappeared while the memory of enclosure remained, turning a defensive ring into a hollow place. What was built to keep people together or apart became a hole in the ground, private to rain and forgetfulness.

This site appears on the 1841-42 OS map as a circular enclosure. On the later edition of 1916 'cave' is marked in the interior, though the site would appear to be levelled on the N to E sectors.
