Fairy forts are earthen rings people once believed the fairies danced inside. In Tonaknock, Kerry, a ring marked on the 1841-42 Ordnance Survey map had vanished by 1916, erased or buried until no trace remained. Perhaps fields widened, stones reused, memory shortened. The fairies did not lose their fort; people stopped seeing it.

This circular enclosure appears on the 1841-42 OS map. It does not appear on the 1916 edition, and no surface trace survives today. The above description is derived from C.
