Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Tonaknock

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No part of the fort remains visible, yet it resisted forgetting long enough to mark two maps before vanishing from the second. That gap is not a failed record; it is a shape of loss. judgement should follow the evidence, not complete the story.
This circular enclosure lay one field NE of Ballyhenry rath (KE015-115----). It is marked on the 1841-42 OS map. It is not on the later edition and no surface trace survives. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 595. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
