What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Templenacarriga South is a roughly circular earthen enclosure, 25 to 30 metres across, set on a south-facing slope above a stream valley. Its bank rises 1.4 metres inside and 0.7 metres outside, with a steeper two-metre scarp on the southeast and a shallow ditch tracing the eastern edge. The interior slopes downward toward the opening, as if the earth itself leaned out to watch the valley. Power wrote of man-made underground passages nearby, a claim that belongs more to wonder than measurement, yet it fits the shape: a room dug into the hill, half forgotten, waiting for someone to admit it exists.
In pasture, on S-facing slope, overlooking stream valley. Depicted on 1842 OS 6-inch map as hachured square enclosure (c. 22m N-S; c. 22m E-W) and on 1936 OS 6-inch map as circular enclosure, open to S. Roughly circular area (25m E-W; 30m N-S) defined by earthen bank (int. H 1.4m; ext. H 0.7m) W->SE; scarp (H 2m) SE->W; shallow fosse ENE->ESE, traces elsewhere. Interior slopes down to S. Power (1917, 198) mentions 'Man-made underground passages' in connection with this site (CO065-102---).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
