Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Tawnagh East (killinny Ed)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

That is the name of the place, and the name is still the best description. The chamber is a small circular room on a hill with a visible door, a wooden chair, a wooden table, and a black pot on a metal stand. The chamber has no roof, no floor, and no light except the sky above. The chamber has no owner and no address. It is not hidden. It is not complete. It is a room with one wall missing, waiting for the person who knows the place.
On the summit of a NE-SW ridge in an area of grassland and tillage. Marked on the 1838 and 1922 editions of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure cut by a NE-SW running field boundary at NE and S. On inspection in June 1973 only the section to the NW of the field boundary survived of this oval rath (c. 31m NE-SW). It was defined by a low bank of earth and stone (SMR file). The current OSi aerial imagery indicates that this section of the rath still survives. It is overgrown with trees and bushes. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 11 July 2019
